Wayne Perry Shumway1940 ~ 2012Wayne Perry Shumway passed from our world on October 11, 2012 at the age of 72. He is now free from all limitations associated with the process of cancer. He was born in Franklin, Idaho to Earl Hymas and Thelma Perry Shumway. He graduated from Utah State University in Electrical Engineering and completed his masters at Stanford University.He married Donna Kay Ogden in 1966. They had four children: Kevin (Emily Day-) Shumway, Beverley (Feza) Yilmaz, Rebecca (Derek) Handley, and Carie Shumway (Keith Bellows). Wayne's first marriage ended in 1990.He married Sherrie L. Halpin Scott in 1991. She brought into their marriage her four children: Bret (Dina) Scott, Stephanie (Alan) Rader, Brandon (Robyn) Scott and Ashley Scott Vlasov. The family has expanded to include 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.He is preceded in death by one brother, Mark Perry Shumway, one sister, Beverly Shumway, and is survived by one brother, Perry Earl Shumway, and two sisters, Fern Porter and Lorna (Dee) Weiser.Wayne loved to tinker and fix things. He was a patient listener and a caring husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed cookies, hiking, intellectual discussions, books and liberal politics. He helped establish the South Valley Unitarian Universalist congregation in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.Wayne's family would like to thank the staffs of Dr. Elizabeth Prystas, the IHC Stem Cell Transplant Team, and Utah Hospice Specialists. Special thanks to Tom Lay from Your Parent's Au Pair for their wonderful care.Memorial services for Wayne will be held on Friday October 19, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple; visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the services.
