The president holds a significant portion of power. He, as the commander in chief, has declared non-wars that assisted in the overthrowing of several governments and initiated a great many processes, including mandatory health insurance with obligatory birth control and a new immigration policy. He has set in place policies to allow swift nationalization of all of the water and transportation resources in the country, bypassing Congress, by presidential decree.
He also vetoes single-handedly, as he did with the Keystone pipeline and others, opportunities to create thousands of jobs. The gap between the middle and upper class has expanded, and the lower class has expanded. Not one member of Congress has supported his proposed budgets.
Mitt Romney got the Olympics out of debt and was able to recruit more than 46,000 unpaid and uncompensated volunteers to do it. Perhaps one man cannot do it alone, but as Star Wars so aptly causes us to inquire, "Who is the bigger fool? The fool, or he who follows him?"
A complacent people with low expectations for the most powerful man in the country will get exactly what they expect.
