TOQUERVILLE, Washington County — Drugs were found in the wreckage of a single-vehicle accident on I-15 that left one man dead Monday.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Joe Pastor said the man was traveling north near Toquerville about 2:15 p.m. when his 1986 convertible Chevrolet Corvette left the roadway and flipped about 65 feet down an embankment, landing on its roof. The driver was found dead at the scene.
The car had plowed through a closed construction area and continued traveling north along an embankment before tumbling end over end through a small quarry of rocks and down the embankment, police said.
Some bags were found along with cash in the vehicle, Pastor said. Police later confirmed the bags contained methamphetamine.
Police were still investigating the cause of the accident, as well as the driver's possible impairment. The victim's name was unavailable Monday night pending notification to next of kin.
Initial reports indicated the man was about 60 years old.
