Healthcare workers save a median of $17,000 more for retirement than those in other fields, according to Fidelity Investments.
Healthcare workers saved an average of $7,000 for retirement in 2011, twice as much as other workers that year, but they also make a lot of miscalculations concerning their retirement.
On average, healthcare workers underestimate their social security benefits by $500 every month, compared to $450 for all other workers.
Twenty-six percent of workers in the field of healthcare expect fair to poor health in retirement. Forty-three percent report fair to poor health once they retire from the workforce.
Though 47 percent of healthcare workers expect to be able to work part-time during their retirement years, only 12 percent actually do.
