SALT LAKE CITY — A Sandy man is accused of stealing more than $370,000 from his employer over several years through unauthorized checks.
Jason West, 50, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with theft by deception, a second-degree felony, and nine counts of forgery, a third-degree felony.
West is accused of stealing 95 checks from Interwest Supply Co., where he was in charge of financial accounts, according to the charges. Company officials said the checks had been written over four years, starting in 2008.
Checks were written directly to West, to his creditors and to hockey clubs with which he was associated, according to the charges. The checks were ostensibly signed by another man in the company, who told police he never signed them.
A CPA hired by Interwest Supply to perform an audit discovered the discrepancies, according to court documents.
