LDS trio receive history awards
SALT LAKE CITY — Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were recognized during the Utah State History awards presentation earlier this month.
Elder Marlin K. Jensen, of the Seventy, was recognized with an Honorary Life Member Award for "his work as LDS Church Historian to foster important initiatives to make LDS history more available and known," according to a news release.
Elder Jensen will be released as the LDS Church's historian and recorder when he is made a general authority emeritus at the upcoming October general conference.
In addition, Elder Jensen; Richard E. Turley, assistant church historian and recorder; and Barbara Jones Brown received the Outstanding Achievement in History Award for their efforts to gain National Historic Landmark status for Mountain Meadows.
The site in Washington County was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2011.

RootsTech early registration opeN
SALT LAKE CITY — Early registration for RootsTech 2013 is available at www.rootstech.org. "Early bird pricing" is also available with the three-day full pass at $149 (the full price is $219) and a "getting started" three-day pass for the beginning classes is $39 (the regular price is $49).

Golden Gleaner reunion in April
MURRAY — The Golden Gleaners will be having a reunion Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Starlite Dance Academy, 4782 S. Plum St. (400 West), in Murray, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
The Golden Gleaners was a program in the Young Women — Mutual Improvement Association until the mid-1970s.

Unpublished Novel Award deadline
OREM — Oct. 1 is the deadline for the Marilyn Brown Unpublished Novel Award, which includes $1,000 for the best novel.
The novel should have a Mormon focus or have predominantly Western regional experiences and literary mainstream genres (no science fiction or fantasy will be considered). The novel must be at least 200 pages, printed front and back on regular 81/2 by 11 white paper, in 12- point type and spiral-bound.
The title page should be included, but without the author's name. The author's name, along with his or her contact information, and the book title should be in a sealed envelope.

Oct. Family History Library Classes
SALT LAKE CITY — Research on immigration, Wales and Hispanic records will be the topics of classes at the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City in October.
On Oct. 13, U.S. immigration records will be the topic of a series of classes from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The class titles are "U.S. Immigration, 1820-1954," "U.S. Naturalization Records" and "Migration Routes Across America."
On Oct. 20, Wales research peculiarities will be the focus with class topics of "Names, Geographical and Personal" and "Records and Research Strategies." Practice time will also be included in the 9 a.m. to noon class period.
On Oct. 27, the Hispanic research class series includes "Crossing the Frontier: Finding Immigrant Ancestors from Mexico," "Beginning Hispanic Research," "Using FamilySearch.org To Find Your Hispanic Ancestors," "La Búsqueda Genealógica en FamilySearch.org," "Como Usar el Nuevo Family Tree" and "¿Y Ahora Qué? Como Hacer la Investigación Genealógica (con casos de estudios)." The classes are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
