Donna Garrick GarrettDec. 12, 1927 ~ Oct. 13, 2012Donna Garrick Garrett, 84 years old, of St. George, Utah, passed away on October 13, 2012. She was born on December 12, 1927 in Tintic, Utah. Donna was the wife of Ernest Thornton (Gary) Garrett of 52 years until his passing on November 8, 1999. She is survived by two brothers Ilyn D. Garrick of Orem, Utah, and B. John Garrick of Laguna Beach, California. Donna was a graduate of Brigham Young University, which is where she met her husband Gary. She did post graduate studies in financial planning at the University of Southern California. She held many executive positions in accounting and financial management in various firms in the Southern California area for a period of over 40 years. Among her professional positions were a controller for Admiral Glass in Los Angeles, a business manager at ABC, an accounting manager at NBC (signed many of Johnny Carson's checks), and a director of corporate accounting for Southwestern Cement Company, Los Angeles. Donna started her career at the Garrett Corporation (no relation) where she rose to the position of Manager, Budget & Financial Planning and ended her career with Jezebel Lingerie of Los Angeles where she was the Corporate Controller. She received many citations and awards throughout her career including a listing in the Marquis Who's Who of American Woman. Donna's leadership qualities were manifested early in life where she was a student body officer in her high school at Cedar City, Utah, and an active female athlete long before women were prominent in the world of competitive athletics. She was an avid snow skier, water skier, loved boating and an extensive traveler. In her advanced years she even became a golfer. A highlight of her traveling experiences was a one year RV trip with her husband Gary to essentially every state in the lower 48. RVing was a major part of her recreation and the friendships and ties with the RV enthusiasts was the highlight of her extremely active life. RVing and the attendant friendships was something she could never get enough of, even though she was a member of two very active RV clubs. Other of the many things Donna did in her active life was line dancing, membership in the Widows of the Elks, the Bloomington Country Club's Ladies Association, active with the Washington County Republican Women, and caring for and enjoying Lacey, her Yorkie dog. There will be a visitation Saturday, October 20, 2012, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S.
