Glen Eldon Maynes1934 ~ 2012Glen Eldon Maynes, 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather returned to his Heavenly Father unexpectedly on October 16, 2012. He was born on August 4, 1934 to loving parents, John K and Sylvia Maynes. Glen graduated from Murray High School. He was a lifelong resident of Murray, Utah. On November 27, 1953, he married his sweetheart, Norma Jacobson. In 1956, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 59 years together and raised eight wonderful children. He loved to laugh, tease and have fun with his family. He loved to serve anyone in need and never missed an opportunity to do so. Glen worked on a mink farm and as a brick layer. He retired after 30 years from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was smart, hard-working and down to earth. He also loved animals, being outdoors, fishing, camping and working with his hands. Glen was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served an LDS mission with his wife in the Albuquerque, New Mexico Mission. He has held many callings including: several years in the Bishopric, Scouting program, High Council, High Priest Leadership and Ward Clerk.Glen is survived by his wife, Norma; children, Carolee and (Gary) Thompson, Janet and (Ken) Dixon, Barbara Jones and (Jim Aycock), David Maynes, Diane and (Clay) Rackley, Kendell and (Shawna) Maynes, Julie and (Robert) Tersigni, Brent and (Leslie) Maynes; 30 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; and grandsons, Dustin Thompson, Jason Jones and Porter Dixon. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray Park Ward LDS Chapel, 435 East 5600 South, Murray. There will be a viewing on Sunday, October 21st at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary from 5-7 p.m., 4760 S. State Street, Murray, and at the chapel on Monday prior to services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment: Murray City Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
