CORVALLIS, Ore. — Saturday's late-night affair between Oregon State and Utah drew the fifth-largest crowd in Reser Stadium history. The announced attendance of 45,769 exceeded capacity by 95.
Interest in Oregon State football is high thanks to the eighth-ranked Beavers' successful start to the season.
The Oregonian reported that students started camping out in tents after Oregon State's victory at BYU — two days before Monday morning's allocation of 6,000 student tickets.
"I haven't seen anything like that," school newspaper sports editor Warner Strausbaugh told the Oregonian.
IN AND OUT: Retired quarterback Jordan Wynn traveled with the team and was on the sidelines. He missed the UCLA trip while recovering from shoulder surgery. Safety Quade Chappuis, offensive lineman Latu Heimuli and fullback Max Moala didn't accompany the Utes to Oregon State because of undisclosed injuries.
TICKET TALK: After road games at UCLA and Oregon State, the Utes return to Rice-Eccles Stadium to face California and Washington State over the next two weeks. Both schools returned tickets, which are now available for purchase through the Utah ticket office (801-587-9894). Prices start at $50. Approximately 100 tickets are left for the Cal game and 650 for Washington State. In addition, there are about 800 tickets available for the home game against Arizona on Nov. 17.
EXTRA POINTS: Oregon State has two players from Utah on its roster — defensive tackle Desmond Collins (Highland HS) and kicker Riley Harper (Cottonwood HS/Utah State). Neither of the redshirt freshmen have played this season . . . Scouts from the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants and San Diego Chargers attended the game . . . The Utes stayed in Eugene Ore., Friday night and were visited at the team hotel by a familiar face — former Brighton High star Ricky Heimuli, who is a junior defensive tackle for the Oregon Ducks . . . Redshirt freshman Charles Henderson has switched positions, going from wide receiver to safety. He's also changed numbers, sporting No. 3 now instead No. 85.
