SALT LAKE CITY — A 16-year-old East High School student was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street near the school Tuesday morning.
The accident happened about 7:30 a.m. near 800 South and 1240 East. A 47-year-old woman hit the boy, who was not in a crosswalk, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Shawn Josephson. Speed was not a factor, he said, noting that the vehicle was traveling at a low rate of speed when it hit the boy.
Josephson said the boy was bleeding from the head when he was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. But he said emergency crews at the scene did not believe the boy was in life-threatening condition and that the trip to the hospital was mostly as precaution.
There was no immediate information as to weather being a factor.
Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
