OGDEN — The heralded newcomer performed as advertised.
Davion Berry, a 6-foot-4 junior guard who sat out last season after transferring to Weber State from Cal State Monterrey Bay, scored 18 points in the Wildcats' annual Purple and White men's intrasquad basketball game
Wednesday night. Berry, being counted on to help pick up the slack left behind by the loss of Damian Lillard, who left school a year early for the NBA, was 5-of-7 from 3-point range.
Senior guard Scott Bamforth added 15 points, junior center Kyle Tresnak had 11 and junior forward Byron Fulton contributed eight points and six rebounds in the game, in which the Wildcats switched sides and played minutes for both the the Purple and White teams. Another newcomer, 6-9 freshman Joel Bolomboy, had a game-high eight rebounds.
In the women's intrasquad game, Regina Okoye had 12 points and Jalen Carpenter added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the Purple team's 42-33 win.
The WSU men begin their season on Nov. 5 with an exhibition game against Western State, while the WSU women host Concordia in their exhibition opener on Nov. 3.
