MURRAY — Pete Benda, a freshman at Juan Diego Catholic High School who was seriously injured after falling from a lift in the school's auditorium Friday, remained in the intensive care unit of Intermountain Medical Center on Saturday, according to posts on the school's Facebook page.

Benda, 14, who was working on the set for the school's production of "The Drowsy Chaperone," fell 15 feet to 20 feet, breaking bones and sustaining head injuries. A teacher was with Benda when the accident occurred, but the teacher was not injured.

An update on the high school Facebook page said Benda underwent surgery Friday night to repair his femur. Benda was in a medically induced coma, according to a post on the page.

Jess Gomez, spokesman for Intermountain Medical Center, said Benda was in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Saturday's performance of the musical was canceled. The show will resume Monday, with the performance dedicated to Benda.

A prayer service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at the school, 300 E. 11800 South, Draper.
