SANDY — A man who opened his door to a man posing as a police officer Thursday ended up bound while his home was robbed, police said.
Clayton Green said the man was wearing a badge and asked to enter his house. He was followed by another man with a bandana over his face. Green and his wife were restrained with zip ties and held at gunpoint while the house was robbed.
The men demanded the code for a safe, threatening to shoot him, but Green said he didn't know it.
"I said 'You'll have to shoot me then, I don't know the combination,'" Green said. "That's about where it ended."
Police are concerned the men could try the ruse again, and reminded residents they can ask officers for identification or call police dispatch to confirm officers have been sent to their home.
