Utah State redshirt freshman linebacker Kyler Fackrell was named the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday following his performance against BYU last weekend. It is the first time in his career Fackrell has been named the WAC’s Player of the Week.
Overall, it is the fifth time this season Utah State has had a WAC Player of the Week as sophomore quarterback Chuckie Keeton has been named the conference’s offensive player of the week twice following wins against Utah and UNLV. Senior running back Kerwynn Williams was also named the league’s offensive player of the week following USU’s win at Colorado State. Senior punter Tyler Bennett has also been honored by the WAC as he was named the league’s special teams player of the week following USU’s win against Utah.
Against the Cougars, Fackrell recorded 10 tackles (4-solo) to go along with his first career interception that he returned eight yards in the fourth quarter to set up USU’s final scoring chance of the game. Overall, it was Fackrell’s second double-figure tackle outing of the season to go along with his career-high 11 stops against Utah.
On the season, Fackrell ranks fifth on the team and is tied for 23rd in the WAC with 6.0 tackles per game.
