Raymond Webster Piercy Jr.1922 ~ 2012Raymond Webster Piercy Jr. passed away at home in Salt Lake City, UT after a long illness. He was 89.He was born on Dec. 20, 1922 to Raymond Webster Piercy Sr. and Nellie Marie Halvorsen, in Tonapah, NV. He grew up in Oakland CA. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1948.He served in the army in the South Pacific for 3 years during WW2 as a member of the 24th Medical Battalion.He married Anona Merrill in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 25, 1950. They made their home in Oakland and later, Concord CA, where they raised 5 children.He was a faithful member of the church, serving in many callings including elder's quorum president, Bishopric, Ward Clerk and Stake High Councilor. He and his wife served a mission to South Carolina. They worked in the Oakland CA and Salt Lake Temples for many years.He was an avid Scouter, working with the cub scouts, Scouts, Sea scout Explorers, and Commissioner Mt. Diablo District. He was awarded the Silver Beaver For 16 years service.Preceded in death by son, Kenneth Alan, parents and sister, Margaret Gubler (Albert).Survived by his wife, children: LaRae, Gayle Gardiner (Kim), Daniel Merrill (Heather), Raymond Wayne (Georgia); 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and sister, Betty Butcher. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 13, at Springview Ward, 3153 S. 900 E. at Noon. Viewing 6-8 pm Monday, Nov.12 at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E. and 11:00-11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment at Redwood Memorial Estates.
