SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Radiation Control announced the three state winners for the 2013 National Radon Poster Contest.
First place went to 13-year-old Tucker Nixon from American Fork Junior High School. His entry was titled “Keeping Homes Safe One Test at a Time.” Eric Anderson from Summit Academy in Draper placed second with his poster “Radon: The Invisible Monster.”
“Don’t let Radon Roam in your Home,” was the theme of Skylee Anderson’s entry. The 11-year-old from Meadow Elementary, in Lehi, came in third.
Students ages 9 to 14 used artwork to educate people about radon. Posters illustrated the dangers of radon, where it comes from, how it gets into homes, and how residents can test their home for this invisible, radioactive gas.
The 2013 state winners and the first-place winner’s school will receive cash awards. The winning posters will then be entered in the National Radon Poster Contest.
