Adele Roma Patten WoodsOur "Kiwi Nana" 1942-2012Adele passed away in the early hours of November 11, 2012. She was born on March 10, 1942 in Auckland, New Zealand to George and Pauline Patten. After college she furthered her education by attending Nursing School in both New Zealand and London. This time in her life created some of her fondest memories, one of which included tea with the Queen. She married Brent Woods, they moved to the United States and were later divorced. Once here, she began her 40 year career with IHC and retired in 2009 from Intermountain Medical Center as Director of Surgical Services. In 1996 she was given a second chance in life through the blessing of organ donation and received a double lung transplant. Even though there were many medical challenges, she was just 9 days short of reaching her 16 year transplant anniversary. Words cannot express our gratitude towards the family of the young donor. Their selfless decision gave us our Nana for another 16 years.Adele is survived by her brother, Paul (Jane)Patten, New Zealand, two children Deborah (Mike) Neeley and Tyler (Lindsay) Woods, four grandchildren, Gabe, Brennan, Cameron and Isabella.Adele's greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. Rain or shine, she was always on the sidelines, on or off the field supporting each one of us. We love her and will miss her dearly. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Barbara Cahill and Staff at U of U Medical center and to Adele's many friends and co-workers in the medical community. We would also like to thank the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living of Sandy and Curo Hospice for their constant love and support. Our family would hope for everyone to realize the importance of and consider organ donation.Services will be held Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, Utah. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15th from 6-8:00 p.m. as well as one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
