Daniel Jay OrthIn Loving MemoryOur beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend Daniel Jay Orth passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 8, 2012, in Sandy, UT. He was born on July 25, 1952 in Tacoma, Washington to Donald Jay and Jayne Marlo Orth. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Georgia, South Carolina Mission. He married the love of his life, Karrie Venita Mitchell on August 22, 1975 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.Dan has always been a hard worker and owned his own grocery store (Food World) in downtown Salt Lake. He then worked for Associated Food Stores in their advertising department until he retired in 2010. Service was always of the upmost importance to Dan and he held many callings in the Church. No one who had him as a teacher could forget him. He truly loved his most recent calling, one he spoke of often, as the Bishop of the Eastridge 4th Ward. His favorite pastimes included golfing, riding motorcycles, playing basketball, working on his cars, and especially spending time with his family. He absolutely loved the beauty of God's creations and was always happy to go for a ride. Dan spoke to others often of his testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a strong example of the Church. Dan is survived by his wife, Karrie Venita and his 5 children, Trent (Chrissy), Justin (Julianne), Allison (Joshua) Banks, "Bear" Derek (Laura), Nathan Orth; 11 grandchildren and 2 on-the-way. Also survived by his mother Jayne, and siblings Linda (Ferron) Holt, Jerrilyn (Dale) Aste, David (Donna) Orth, Sandra (James) Hodge, Brian (Melinda) Orth, JoAnn (Brent) Law, as well as an amazing extended family. He was preceded in death by his son Gregory, his father Donald, and his father-in-law David Mitchell.Funeral services will be held Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eastridge 4th Ward, 11777 S. Willow Wood Drive (880 East). Friends and family can visit Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy and at the church Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
