Obituary: GILLIES, JOSEPH

Joseph William Gillies1977 ~ 2012Joe was born September 10, 1977, on a sunny bright afternoon in Logan, UT, to Brad and Sandy Vorwaller Gillies. He left us Saturday, November 10, 2012, in Salt Lake City. Joe was the oldest brother to Ginger (Lane) Ekberg, Jesse (Joon), and Sam. He was an uncle to Easton, Eli, Landon and Levi. He attended schools in Kearns and Stansbury Park and graduated from Tooele High School with honors. He also attended SUU and SLCC. He grew up as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While he was young, he played baseball and basketball, with his dad as his coach. Joe was always curious, funny and intelligent and did things his way. He had a quirky sense of humor. He enjoyed hiking and being in the outdoors. He enjoyed tending his little flower garden at his apartment. It may be a cliché, but Joe truly stood for the underdogs in life. When he lost his dog, he searched for the one most likely to not make it out of the pound and adopted Mack. That's just the way he was. He was never judgmental of others. He would do anything for anybody. He leaves behind his family and dogs, Mack and Tater, and grandmother DeAnn Gillies; aunts and uncles, Jana and Bryan Crist, Lori and Wade Beebe, Kim and Sean Stewart, Vicki and Gary Gebaurer, Charlene and Bud Bryan, and Nellie and Tom Parker, plus many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Charley and Eva Vorwaller and Scrib Gillies and uncle Rick Vowles. We thank Josh and Joe's special friend, Holly, and very much appreciate both of you.Funeral services will be held at Tate Mortuary in Tooele on Friday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m. with burial in the Lake Point Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday November 15, at the mortuary from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.Joe, we hope you have found the peace you so much wanted.
