Margery M. Twitchell1915 ~ 2012Margery M. Twitchell, age 96, died on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Alta Ridge Assisted Living (Holladay) in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on December 4, 1915 to Walter and Margery A. Mackerell in Beaver Utah. She was the second oldest child in a family of seven girls, four of whom survived into adulthood. Margery was an avid reader and student, graduating from Beaver High School as class Valedictorian in 1934. Despite the difficulties of the Depression Era, Margery attended Henniger Business College and Utah State University (1938-1940). Margery married Doyle Carl Twitchell, of Beaver, on December 26, 1940. While Doyle was serving in the Navy, Margery was a teller at the Beaver Branch of the Milford State Bank. Her contribution to the war effort came in managing the war bonds and ration books of bank customers. After the war, she and her husband had an accounting business, managing the books for local businesses. Margery has the distinction of having taught at the elementary, secondary and college levels. After the birth of their daughter, Margery developed an interest in teaching. She went back to school, attending the College of Southern Utah, (now Southern Utah University) from 1957 to 1960 and earning a degree in Education. She taught elementary school from 1957 to 1963 and then was an instructor in English and Business classes at Beaver High School from 1963 to 1966. She accepted a position in the Education Department of CSU in 1966 and retired as an Associate Professor in 1981. While teaching, she continued to study, earning a Masters of Secondary Education in 1970 and pursuing doctoral studies in 1972-1973. Margery enjoyed service in her many teaching callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She often described herself as practical, yet pursued many forms of artistic expression. She enjoyed drawing and watercolor. After retirement, she received a weaving scholarship from CSU in 1982. Margery also pursued an interest in photography. In family photos, she was often the one behind the camera. Margery is survived by her daughter, Lani Twitchell along with the children of her sisters. Preceding her in death are her parents and sisters Bernice, Mildred and Shirley. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening November 14, 2012 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Garden Park Ward, 1150 East Yale Ave (1087 South), Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be Thursday November 15, 2012 at 1:00pm in Beaver, Utah at the LDS Chapel located at 220 North Main Street, Beaver. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
