Maria Althof Bryker"Oma"Maria Althof Bryker passed away November 1, 2012 at the age of 95.She was born May 14, 1917 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.There she met and married her husband of 44 years Hessel Bryker on September 28, 1942. In March of 1952 Hessel, Maria, and their 3 young children immigrated to the United States.Maria was a devout Catholic, she had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir for over 55 years, first at Sacred Heart and then Saint Ambrose for 40 years. She work at the Bingo's at Sacred Heart and Saint Francis of Assisi for 50 years. She also worked at the Catholic Charities for many years. In her later years she was a member of the 49er's Club and some of her best times were spent going to Wendover with the 49er's.Maria loved being involved, she was a Voting Judge for over 50 years, and volunteered at many other activities over the years. Maria was very gifted at sewing, crocheting, and knitting.Survived by her four children, Trudi (Ron) Russell, Emiel (Pat), Marjo, Marian (Kelly) Vance, 13 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Helen and Jo Anne.Preceded in death by her husband Hessel and 6 siblings, George, Emme, Jan, Gerald, Martha, and Eddie. The family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful staff of the special care unit at St. Joseph Villa.A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 South 2300 East. A vigil service will be held Monday at 7:00 p.m. also at the church, where friends may call from 6:00 7:00 p.m. Committal, Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue and T Street.
