It's nothing too serious, I heal fast. I'm like Wolverine. – Jazz forward Derrick Favors
HOUSTON — Because of an ongoing right foot issue, Derrick Favors didn't play Saturday night.
But after divulging he's struggling with plantar fasciitis and will have an MRI today in Utah, the Jazz power forward did predict he'd return soon.
As in Monday soon. He hopes.
Favors also gave himself a nickname in the process.
"It's nothing too serious," he said. "I heal fast. I'm like Wolverine."
The Jazz continue to officially list Favors' injury as a strained right arch, and his status for Monday's game won't be updated until after his MRI test.
Favors said his foot has been hurting for a couple weeks, but the pain intensified in the first half Friday at Oklahoma City.
"It hurts pretty bad," he said in the Toyota Center locker room before Saturday's 124-116 loss to Houston. "It feels like somebody's sticking something in my foot every time I step on it or push off it."
Even while Favors remains hopeful he'll suit up against the Clippers at ESA on Monday, Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin admitted he's concerned, especially if the MRI reveals something that could keep the big man sidelined longer.
"I'm hopeful," Corbin said, "that it's just a short-term thing and he gets better and gets back on the floor."
ANOTHER INJURY: Starting shooting guard Randy Foye, meanwhile, left Saturday's game for a while after injuring his big right toe during a fast break.
After jamming his foot into a Houston player's foot, Foye hobbled to the bench and winced in pain before stretching it out in the tunnel while the game went on.
"I just felt a little pain in my toe. I went to the back and I ran a little and it was good after that," Foye said. "I iced it down and I'm good. I'm ready to go."
Foye returned to action, and finished with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting.
WILLIAMS UPDATE: Starting small forward Marvin Williams missed his second straight game with concussion symptoms, which he's experienced since his head hit the hardwood at New Orleans on Wednesday. If good news can be extrapolated out of a medical status, then it could be encouraging that Williams has been listed as being a game-time decision for Monday night.
Williams said his headache was getting better on Friday night when he last spoke to the media, but he was listed as doubtful until that status changed to out Saturday morning.
PAYING TRIBUTE: Along with other NBA teams, Utah and Houston players wore special red warm-ups and coaches sported red ribbons in Saturday's game. It was part of the league's effort to bring attention to World AIDS Day.
