MINNEAPOLIS — Ian Theisen's 15-foot baseline jump shot swished through the net right before the buzzer, giving the Osseo Orioles a 49-47 victory over the Lakeville North Panthers in the Class 4A state championship game.
Theisen is a 6-foot-9 sophomore and the son of head coach Tim Theisen. Theisen was wide open Saturday when Bridge Tusler drove to the lane and drew the defense to him before passing to his left to set up the winner. Theisen finished with eight points and four rebounds for the Orioles (30-2), who beat Hopkins 87-86 in triple overtime in the semifinals to end the Royals' streak of three straight state titles.
Tyler Flack scored 12 points for the Panthers (30-2), who were in the state championship game for the first time.
