CALE STRONG, Wasatch, track and field: The senior had a fantastic showing at the 30-team Pine View Invitational last weekend.

Strong claimed three events titles, finishing first in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles as well as the 200 meters.

His dominance was instrumental in leading the Wasps to the team title over Alta.

Strong is the defending 3A state champion in both hurdles, and last month he signed a letter of intent to run track at Stanford University.

"He's worked very, very hard. You get a lot of kids in track and they're kind of just good at what they do. Cale has been working on hurdles since the end of last year," said Wasatch coach Brad Foster.

Strong was also a member of Wasatch's basketball team, starting every game and finishing the season averaging 8.8 ppg.

HANNAH KELSON, Wasatch, softball: Hannah Kelson's teammates respect her as a leader more for what she does than anything she says.

"She's highly motivated," said Wasatch head coach Gary Roberts of the senior shortstop. "She has a very athletic background. She's always willing to get the girls up. She's the first one to practice and she stays after practice. She's a great example that way. Her work ethic is unmatched." That work ethic has paid off after the honor student battled back from knee injuries to have a stellar season so far. She's the team's second hitter and has five doubles and two home runs with a .638 batting average.

"She controls the infield," Roberts said. "She can hit for power, steal bases, and she's a great bunter. … She's worked hard to get past (the injuries). She's put in a lot of extra time."
