Utah poetry festival scheduled for April 20-21 at Airport Hilton

SALT LAKE CITY — Ted Kooser, former U.S. Poet Laureate, will be the featured guest at the Utah State Poetry Society's annual poetry festival on April 20-21 at the Airport Hilton, 5151 Wiley Post Way.

Kooser will present a free reading on April 20 at 7 p.m. and a workshop for paid attendees at 11 a.m. on April 21.

The festival will open on April 20 at 2 p.m. with a free workshop by Utah poet Rob Carney. On April 21 at 5 p.m., poets from Utah elementary, middle schools and high schools will be honored at the festival's "Junior Creative."

The Utah State Poetry Society was founded in 1950 with the main objective of promoting and encouraging the writing, reading and enjoyment of poetry.

The Utah Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts are cosponsors of the festival.
