High school track: Desert Hills' Tyler Ott and Ogden's Jamie Stokes shine in Dixie

ST. GEORGE — Desert Hills basketball star Tyler Ott, the 3A MVP this past season, was arguably the best dunker in the state. His leaping ability translates very well to the track.

At the Dixie High Track and Field Invitational this past weekend, Ott cleared 6'08 in the high jump, the best jump in Utah this year by three inches.

His leaping ability helped the Desert Hills boys to a third-place finish with 96 points. Cedar won the meet with 136 points, followed in second by Pine View with 129.5 points.

Cedar's girls won the team title as well racking up 133 points, followed by Desert Hills with 103 points and Pine View with 87.5.

Even though fourth-place Ogden didn't factor into the team race, Ogden distance runner Jamie Stokes was the star of the meet.

The won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters,

Her time of 4:54.37 in the 1,600 meter on Friday is the third best time in Utah this year, and new 3A record. On Saturday, she posted a time of 10:43.43 in the 3,200 also the third best mark in Utah this year.

Stokes wasn't the only multiple-event winner on the girls side as Cedar's Aimee Bryson crossed the finish line first in both the 200 and 400 meters. Her time of 58.27 in the 400 meters is a top-eight time in Utah this year.

Just as Stokes dominated the girls competition, so did Pine View's Jake Arslanian for the boys as he won the 100, 200 and 400 meters. His times in all three events placed him in the top 10 in the state this year.

Pine View teammate Austin Micklson had a great meet as well. His shot put throw of 50'03.50 was the third best toss in the state this year.
