Included among several significant recent acquisitions of historical sites by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Joseph Smith home in Kirtland, Geauga County, Ohio. It is situated on the west side of Chillicothe Road (Ohio 306) immediately north of the Kirtland Temple and Kirtland North Cemetery.

The home was the first to be built and used by Joseph and Emma — after seven years of marriage.

In the past, both tradition and some published sources listed this home as belonging to Joseph Smith Sr., the Prophet's father. Researcher Karl Anderson notes that tax records and other sources affirm that the home was indeed that of Joseph Smith Jr. Historian Mark Lyman Staker likewise identifies it as such.
