BYU's 2012 season-opener against Washington State has been moved to Thursday, Aug. 30 with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. MT, the school announced Wednesday. The game, which was originally set for Sept. 1, will be televised by ESPN.

Also, BYU's game against Hawaii has been switched to Friday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. MT, and will broadcast on ESPN. That game was originally scheduled for Sept. 29.

That gives BYU four non-Saturday games this season, along with the Sept. 20 (Thursday) showdown against Boise State at 7 p.m. MT, on ESPN, and the Oct.. 5 (Friday) contest against Utah State at 8:15 p.m. MT, on ESPN or ESPN2.

The Cougars will be part of ESPN's Thursday or Friday night football series four of the first six weeks of the 2012 season. ESPN and ESPN2 are available in nearly 100 million homes.

BYU will host Weber State on Sept. 8 in a game to be broadcast on BYUtv. That game will kick off at 1 p.m. MT.

"We are excited to announce the first half of our television schedule for 2012," said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe. "Thanks to our partnership with ESPN and BYUtv, only a handful of schools received the national exposure we enjoyed in 2011. We have great television partners who provide us with the opportunity to consistently play in front of a national audience."

Of the final six games on the 2012 football schedule, only the Notre Dame broadcast plans have been announced. The Cougars will visit the Fighting Irish in South Bend, Ind., on Oct. 20, at 1:30 p.m. MT, before a national audience on NBC.

Broadcast plans for the rest of BYU's 2012 football schedule will be announced at a later date.
