MILLCREEK — A toddler was hospitalized in fair condition Wednesday after falling from a second-story window.
Fire officials were called to Parkway Commons, 875 W. Meadow Brook Expressway (3900 South), just before 11 a.m. and found the 18-month-old child on the grass, Unified Fire Authority Capt. Cliff Burningham said. The child appeared to be in good health and officials canceled their request for a medical helicopter.
The child was instead transported by ground in fair condition.
Burningham said it appeared as though the child had crawled onto a couch situated next to an open window and fell when the screen gave way. The child landed on a patch of grass.
The incident was a reminder to parents to keep their eyes on their children and pay attention to the way their furniture is situated.
"Toddlers are mischievous and a little unpredictable," Burningham said. "Take a look at your home and make sure you don’t have anything … close to window openings where we give those kids a little bit of ability to climb up and look out the window and push that out."
