The AP story in Monday's paper regarding the passing of Samuel Tso, the vice president of the Navajo Code Talkers, did not mention his connection with Utah ("VP of Navajo Code Talkers Association dies at 89," May 13). Both Tso and his wife, Ann Yazzie, were employed at Intermountain Indian School during the 1950s.
Both of them worked as interpreters in the classrooms. If my memory serves me correctly, Yazzie appeared on the Intermountain float at the 1951 Peach Days Parade. It was from Brigham City that Tso decided that he would become a teacher and went to ASU to further his education. After they left Intermountain Indian School, the Tso family returned to Lukachukai, Ariz., to serve in the elementary school in their native home. Both Tso and Yazzie were excellent educators.
