Glen L. Snell1938-2012Salt Lake CityGlen Leslie Snell, Jr. peacefully passed away May 15, 2012, at the age of 74 from complications of diabetes and congestive heart failure. He was born Mar. 17, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio to Glen Leslie Snell, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Reese Snell. He married Sharon Lee Harmuth May 16, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio. The marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple Aug. 16, 1964, and they were divorced Feb. 8, 1983. They had two children together: Thomas Duane Snell and Susan "Suzie" Elizabeth Snell. Glen has four grandchildren and one great-grandchild from that union. Glen later married Linda Massey Olson Nov. 17, 1993, and they enjoyed each other's company for 29 years all together. He helped rear her six children and was Grandpa Glen to her 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Glen enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Aug. 12, 1958, and retired Sep. 1, 1982 as TSgt. after having served 23 years. Glen served the USAF in Brazil, Ascension Islands, So. Africa, Washington D.C., Germany and Southeast Asia while stationed at Udorn Thai Royal Air force Base, Thailand. After moving to Utah, Glen taught in the ROTC program at BYU where he retired from his military career. Glen then started a new career working in the Federal Bankruptcy Court for 21 years as a hearing officer for Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy cases. Glen was baptized into the LDS Church Nov. 16, 1964 in the Atlantic Ocean off Ascension Island at Clarke's Beach. He served in many positions including a stake mission in the Eastern Atlantic States; in Thailand, at Temple Square, Pioneer Village at Lagoon, and then as a genealogy missionary. Glen has done a great deal of genealogy for his family submitting over 2,000 names for temple work. Glen was a high priest and also served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Glen loved being a referee for football, basketball, and baseball games in schools and colleges all over the State of Utah. His special love was his horse Dixie, and he spent many enjoyable hours with her. Glen was an accomplished and award-winning photographer and artist. He was tender-hearted, generous, and forgiving. Glen was a good man who will be missed by all who knew him, especially his "little buddy," Linda. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 19, 2012, at 11:00AM at the Salt Lake Mount Olympus Stake Center, 3862 East Oakview Drive, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT. Flowers may be sent to Wasatch Lawn Mortuary the day prior to services.
