It's not often that out-of-towners urge Utahns to experience what their own state has to offer, but when it comes to Antelope Island, that's exactly the case.

Antelope Island is located about 41 miles north of Salt Lake City in the Great Salt Lake. While an estimated 300,000 people visit the island each year, approximately 60 percent of the visitors are not from Utah.

The island is home to a large population of buffalo, offers picnic and camping areas and touts a restaurant at Buffalo Point, but visitors say it has even more to offer.

"Once (Utahns) get out here and they experience that, I think that the need for facilities and utilities goes away and they actually appreciate what this place is," Jeremy Shaw said.
