For the past 20 years or so, I have been a regular exerciser — walking and jogging around the neighborhoods in Kaysville, Fruit Heights and Farmington. It astounds me how many times I have to stop dead in my tracks to avoid getting hit by a car driven by an inattentive or distracted driver.
It seems almost daily I have to avoid drivers backing out of their driveway or making a right- or left-hand turn without looking both ways first. I am very saddened by the number of pedestrian injuries and deaths I read about in the paper because of not only bad drivers, but also inattentive and distracted pedestrians as well.
It is a shared responsibility. Being on a sidewalk or in a crosswalk does not make you safe. Save your life or someone else's life by being alert and aware.
