SALT LAKE CITY — Traffic headaches along 400 West are expected to ease by this weekend.
The Utah Transit Authority is planning to resume service to Salt Lake Central, Old Greek Town and Planetarium TRAX stations beginning on Friday, May 25. The stations have been closed since May 5 as crews worked to connect the Airport TRAX line to the existing system at the intersection of 400 West and South Temple, just west of Arena Station.
Construction work on the new connection is expected to be completed by Wednesday and will be followed by one full day of testing on Thursday. All trains will operate on regular schedule from Arena Station to Salt Lake Central Station; however, trains will not carry passengers past Arena Station during the testing period.
“Testing must be completed successfully before we can resume passenger service,” UTA Rail Services general manager Paul O’Brien said. “As long as everything checks out on Thursday, we’ll be ready to start carrying passengers on Friday.”
Until testing is complete, UTA will continue to operate a bus shuttle to transport passengers to and from Salt Lake Central Station and the central business district on 15-minute intervals from 5:25 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. A detailed shuttle map is available at www.rideuta.com.
