Peter Smith Gray1922 - 2012Peter Smith Gray peacefully completed his earthly experience at his home in Centerville, Utah on May 20, 2012, at the age of 89. Peter is survived by his wife Carol Demars Gray of Centerville, UT, his two sons: Steven Alan (Sharon) Gray of Centerville, UT and Dennis Robert (Donna) Gray of Bountiful, UT, 4 grandchildren: Stefanie (Mike) Embrey, Kirk (Jennifer) Gray, Scott Gray, Shaunna (Travis) Burbidge, 8 great-grandchildren, and his brother Charles Gray, Goleta, CA. He was preceded in death by his brothers Alan and Henry, half-brother Craig, half-sister Carolyn, and granddaughter Christine.Peter was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 29, 1922 to Alan Mandell Gray and Marian Eloise Smith. When Peter was six years old he moved to California with his family. He lived in Redondo, Laguna, and Manhattan beaches; Santa Monica; and on Roxbury Road in Beverly Hills.Peter served in the Army Air Forces during WWII and was stationed with the 7th Bomb Group in India from November 1943 until October of 1945. He met Carol at the Coconut Grove Dance Hall just two weeks prior to his deployment to India, and in November 1945 he came back to Utah to get reacquainted. They were married on May 17, 1946, and celebrated their 66th anniversary just this past week. Peter attended the University of Utah and retired after 30 years of employment at Hill Air Force Base in accounting and data-automation as a computer programmer. Peter's hobbies included creating wood carvings of water fowl. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, fly-tying, reading, golfing, and reliving his life's adventures through stories to his grandchildren.
