HOLBROOK JUNCTION, Nev. — Crews are preparing to go back in the air to fight a wildfire that's destroyed two homes and is threatening dozens more near the Nevada-California line.

Douglas County Sheriff's dispatchers say the blaze has scorched about 5,000 acres by early Wednesday but is moving away from homes. They say it is 10 percent contained.

Smoke from the blaze has drifted hundreds of miles south and is forming a layer of haze over the Las Vegas Valley.

No injuries or deaths have been reported in the fire that authorities believe may have sparked after winds stirred up a controlled burn on residential land Tuesday.

Firefighters say 120 homes and 300 outbuildings were threatened late Tuesday. Seventeen outbuildings and some cars had been burned, along with two houses.
