HURRICANE — A brush fire quickly spread causing concern for some homeowners in Hurricane Tuesday evening.
The fire is burning is close to Highway 59, between Hurricane and Hildale according to Hurricane Fire Chief Tom Kuhlmann.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers are guiding traffic on the highway between milemarkers 16 and 17. Kuhlmann said the fire hasn't crossed the highway but there is a lot of smoke in the area, causing visibility problems. The fire has burned roughly 600 acres and the cause is unkown.
Kuhlmann said fire crews were call in just after 5 p.m. and expected to be on seen most of the night to keep the blaze from reaching nearby homes. The fire was believed to have stareted near the Angel Heights and Rainbow Canyons subdivisions.
Winds in the area were reportedly kicking up the flames late Tuesday.
