HURRICANE — A 2,000 acre wildfire burning near Hurricane is estimated to be about 65 percent contained.

The Hurricane Assist 2 Fire, burning near state Route Highway 59 between Hurricane and Hildale, has not burned any structures, but BLM officials say some could be threatened. The road to Diamond Ranch Academy has been closed due to the fire.

The wildfire started about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officials are calling the fire human caused, but have no other details.

BLM spokesman David Eaker said fire crews made good progress overnight, but gusty winds and low humidity forecast for later Wednesday could cause problems for the estimated 75 firefighters were fighting the blaze.
