Irey J. Forakis1928 ~ 2012Irey J. Forakis, age 83, of Heber City, UT, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, after an extended illness, at home surrounded by his loving family. Irey was born August 16, 1928, in Altonah, UT, to John Petro and Afton Mecham Forakis. He was raised on the Ute Indian Reservation at Ft. Duchesne, UT. He attended Alterra High School where he was on the football and wrestling teams. He was the 3rd of eight children. Irey served in the U.S. Army during WWII and in the Korean War. On October 16, 1948, he married Fay Horrocks in LaPoint, UT. He served in the LDS Bishopric in Casper, WY from 1970 1974. In 1974 he was hurt and paralyzed while working for Conoco. He never complained which made him an extraordinary example of patience and long suffering. Even though paralyzed, it didn't slow him down. . . taking daughters to rodeas, fishing, hunting, camping and family trips.He is survived by his endearing wife of 63 years, Fay; son, Lynn (Sharon); daughters: Marie (Brent), LaRae (Bill), Bev (Kevin); three brothers: Petro, Jim, George; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Elaine, and Catherine; and grandson, David Ryan.He will be truly missed and we look forward to being an eternal family.Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7, 2012 1:00 p.m. in the Charleston LDS Church, 3423 South 3500 West, Charleston, Utah. Viewing will be on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 11:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. BOTH at the LDS Church. Interment will follow the services in the Charleston Cemetery with Military Honors.
