WARSAW, Poland — With violence flaring up in Warsaw and injuries reported, the football at the European Championship went ahead Tuesday with the Czech Republic beating Greece 2-1.

Police said 10 people were injured and 56 detained in clashes in the Polish capital as Russia supporters marched to the National Stadium for their match against co-host Poland.

In Wroclaw, Petr Jiracek and Vaclav Pilar scored in the opening six minutes for the Czechs, who were forced to hang on for victory after Fanis Gekas pounced on a goalkeeping error by Petr Cech.

Greece needs to win its last game against Russia to qualify for the quarterfinals.
