Martin de Jong19262012Hardworking ManMartin de Jong 85 passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2012. Born Nov. 21, 1926 in S.L.C., UT to John de Jong and Magdalena Evertse de Jong. He married his sweetheart Joye Young on June 12, 1947. Sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1957.He served in the US Army during World War II, in the 584th Engineer Construction Group. He was very proud and honored to have served his country. He was a very patriotic man. Mart was a proud member of the S.L.C. Cement Mason's Union Local 568 for 61 years. Worked on the Church Office Building, SLC Airport and many more. He was a self taught craftsman, loved wood working & leather tooling. Took great pride in his home and yard. Enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his horses. Enjoyed his cowboy poetry outings.He served faithfully in many church callings.Survived by his wife Joye of 65 years and their 5 children; Martin L. (Lorna) de Jong, Deloris Beynon, Dan (Laurie) de Jong, Lisa Fulton (Gary), Andrea Roberts (KC). Preceded in death by parents, daughter Cora Linn de Jong. Proud of his 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.Funeral will be held Thursday, June 28th at 11:00 am at Heritage Ward located at 47 W. Clay Park Dr. (6280 So). Viewings will be held Wednesday, June 27th from 6-8:00 pm at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary 4760 South State Street and Thursday at the church from 9:30 -10:30 am prior to the services.
