MOAB — A Moab man was arrested after narcotics agents found marijuana plants up to 11 feet tall growing in his backyard.

The Moab Area Narcotics Enforcement Team served a search warrant on an isolated residence on July 20. A total of 43 marijuana plants were seized, ranging from 2 feet to 11 feet tall, according to the drug enforcement team. The plants had an estimated street value of $430,000. Planting and packaging materials were also seized.

"The marijuana that was under cultivation had water running through PVC pipes and had a system to nurture it," said Moab Police Chief Mike Navarre.

William Randall, 51, was arrested for investigation of cultivating marijuana and possession of illegal narcotics, firearms and drug paraphernalia. The Grand County Attorney's Office is reviewing the case to decide if formal charges are warranted.

Detectives said the incident was a good reminder for the public to report any possible marijuana grows they come across, whether it's in a residential area or ones that hikers might come across in the mountains.
