Greinke traded from Brewers to Angels

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Zack Greinke has been traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Los Angeles Angels for rookie shortstop Jean Segura and two minor league pitchers.

The Angels also sent right-handers Ariel Pena and RHP Johnny Hellweg to Milwaukee in the deal announced Friday night before Los Angeles played Tampa Bay.

By landing Greinke, Los Angeles acquired perhaps the most prized pitcher available before Tuesday's trade deadline. The 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner is 9-3 with a 3.44 ERA in 21 starts for Milwaukee this season.

The 28-year-old right-hander can become a free agent after the World Series.

TWINS PUT PLOUFFE ON DL: Trevor Plouffe has been scratched from the Minnesota Twins' lineup and placed on the disabled list after aggravating a right thumb injury during batting practice before a game against the Cleveland Indians.

Alexi Casilla was inserted into the lineup at second base, and Jamey Carroll moved to third for Friday's game. Plouffe hasn't played since he hurt the thumb during a July 20 game against Kansas City.

Danny Valencia, who was replaced by Plouffe at third base early in the season, is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Rochester today. Valencia hit .250 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs since joining Rochester on May 10.

PALMEIRO IN A HALL OF FAME, JUST NOT COOPERSTOWN: Rafael Palmeiro is now a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. He hopes someday Cooperstown comes calling as well.

But he's not going to grovel.

Palmeiro said he's "done lobbying" baseball's writers and that his numbers on the field speak for themselves.

Palmeiro was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame on Friday in Jackson. The 47-year-old played at Mississippi State during the 1980s, when he and Will Clark were part of a formidable lineup that led the Bulldogs to the College World Series.
