Mary Joyce Noble Southam1935 ~ 2012Salt Lake City, UTMary Joyce Noble Southam, age 76, passed away peacefully in her home with a book in hand, on July 21, 2012. Joyce was born the youngest of three, in Salt Lake City on November 7, 1935 to Mildred Green and Wallace Ray Noble. She married Don Louis Southam on November 24, 1961. She attended Granite High and the University of Utah graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She began her rewarding 25 year career as a librarian, and then taught kindergarten through third grades. Throughout her life she admired the visual arts, and enjoyed drawing and painting. She was a member of the Utah Water Color Society, frequenting local art galleries to view Utah's many great talents. Joyce beautifully embroidered, quilted and sewed. She lived one of her favorite quotations by Albert Bigelow Paine:"What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others becomes immortal." Everyone who entered her life felt her compassion and devoted interest in their wellbeing. Joyce leaves behind her beloved sister, Barbara Monson; her children, Jan Southam, Dave (Camie) Southam, and Karen Southam (Guy Wheelwright); grandchildren she was so proud of, Michael, Jason, Marc, Spencer, Nathan, Allison, and Jenelle; nieces who cared deeply for her, Gwen Monson and Diane Noble; and her dear friends Nancy, Bill, and Janet and Francene with her sweet children. As she returns to our Father in Heaven, she joins her husband Don, son Ken, and brother Ray Noble. We would like to thank those who have shown mom great kindness throughout her life, especially during her struggles with breast cancer and recent diabetes. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday July 31, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 30 from 6-8 PM in Wasatch Lawn Mortuary and one hour prior to funeral services. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
