WEST JORDAN — A call center opening Monday will try to drum up support for 4th Congressional District candidate Mia Love.
The Utah Republican Party's so-called Victory Center, 1227 W. 9000 South, includes a phone bank and volunteer mobilization office. Volunteers will identify supporters, call targeted voters and register residents to vote by mail.
The center will focus on Love's campaign to unseat six-term Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson.
“We will use this Victory Center to contact voters one at a time to let them know that Mia Love will stand up to President Obama because Jim Matheson hasn’t,” said state GOP chairman Thomas Wright.
Matheson considers himself a conservative Democrat who votes conscience over party. He recently joined House Republicans in calling for the repeal of Obama's health care plan.
National Democratic and Republican leaders have targeted Utah's 4th District as a key race this year. Both parties have committed significant amounts of money to their candidates for TV ads this fall.
