ATLANTA — Early election returns in Georgia show runoffs are possible in two Republican primary races for Congress.

State Rep. Doug Collins of Gainesville had 42 percent of the vote to lead the GOP race in north Georgia's new 9th District. With 15 percent of precincts reporting, talk-radio host Martha Zoller had 39 percent and retired school principal Roger Fitzpatrick had 19 percent.

In Democratic Rep. John Barrow's 12th District, state Rep. Lee Anderson of Grovetown is leading the GOP primary with 35 percent of the vote, followed by Augusta businessman Rick W. Allen with 26 percent.

With 18 percent of precincts reporting, Augusta attorney Wright McLeod had 24 percent and Dublin attorney Maria Sheffield had 15 percent.

An Aug. 21 runoff will settle the race if no candidate exceeds 50 percent.
