William Jon Harvey1958 ~ 2012William Jon Harvey, our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away unexpectedly July 28, leaving behind a trail of broken hearts that will take forever to heal. Jon, 53, loved his family above all else. Next, he loved riding his Harley, fishing, puttering around the house, and amazing those he knew with his ability to fix just about anything. He was our MacGyver "go-to" man if something broke, the grill needed a grill master, or we needed a good laugh and a comforting shoulder. Born on Oct. 12, 1958, in Salt Lake City to William (Bill) and LaRue Harvey, Jon graduated from Brighton High School in 1977. A year later, he married the love of his life, Joni Smilanich, a girl he met in his 8th grade math class at Butler Junior High. It truly was love at first sight. Together, these sweethearts lived in Riverton and raised four amazing sons: Daniel Jon; Brett William; Marc Milan; and Michael Thomas. Jon was proud of the fine men his sons grew up to be. Much to Jon and Joni's delight, they were again later blessed, this time with three granddaughters (Lilly, Grace and Samantha) who loved their Papa Jon and enjoyed wrapping him around their sweet little fingers. "Are the girls coming over?" was the question Jon asked most frequently. Jon was a talented aviation and aerospace technician, most recently employed by Moog in Salt Lake City. Jon is survived by his wife, Joni; four sons; parents, Bill and LaRue; sisters, Diane Fehr and Jolene Nelson (Brad); and brother, Greg. He is preceded in death by his brother, Mitch. Jon was also loved and will be dearly missed by in-laws, Milan and Helen Smilanich; sisters-in-law, Georgie Collvins and Paula Somers and their families; and a host of nieces and nephews and other close-knit family members who will always remember this special man. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 2, at noon at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 So.) Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Interment will take place at Mount Olivet cemetery, 1342 E. 5th So., in Salt Lake City immediately after the service.Online condolences at www.cannonmortuary.com.
