Utah State football conducted its sixth annual Ladies Clinic Tuesday evening on the newly installed turf on Merlin Olsen Field inside Romney Stadium. The ever-growing event had a turnout of 200 participants this year.
“Having all of these tremendous Aggie fans in this clinic is a great way to start the year,” USU head coach Gary Andersen said. “I think it is safe to say that all the ladies had a great time; they were excited and our players were excited too. I know our players truly enjoy working with the community and especially the participants in this clinic. Overall, this was fun and exciting for everyone involved.”
The clinic, which was sponsored by America First Credit Union, was designed to teach participants football skills, techniques and the ins-and-outs of the game. Participants also had the opportunity to meet the Aggie football coaching staff and selected players.
“We love the football team, we know how hard they work to represent Utah State and we’re excited to be here to support them and become better acquainted with them,” said Cache Valley native Juanita Kohler, who has been a USU football season ticket holder for the past 20 years. “This clinic is great fun. Everybody has a good time and the opportunity to learn some techniques is just a bonus. The players and coaches are incredible; they are so patient and good with us and they really do a tremendous job in all the individual groups.”
The clinic began with all of the participants charging through the Utah State inflatable helmet and running onto Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium.
Participants then broke into groups and went through every position drill. Some of the drills included throwing passes at the quarterback station, running routes at the receivers station, blocking at the offensive line station, shedding blockers and hitting tackling dummies at the defensive line station, among many others. Participants also got to suit up in full gear and Aggie uniforms.
Following the stations, all participants, coaches and players gathered for a group photo and closed with raffle drawings, awarding prizes from a variety of items and gift certificates from the numerous Cache Valley business sponsors of the event. In addition to the title sponsor, America First Credit Union, the Utah State Football Ladies Clinic was sponsored by the Cache Valley Mall, Texas Roadhouse, the Logo Shop, Locker 42, Down East, Sherwood Hills Resort, Tony’s Grove and Wal-Mart.
