PROVO — BYU players reported to campus Wednesday, and the Cougars open fall camp this afternoon.
Among those who won't be participating in practices is senior O'Neill Chambers, who "is not currently in good standing with the program," according to a BYU release.
Chambers was suspended during the 2010 season and was sidelined for the entire 2011 campaign. He rejoined the team during spring drills, poised to make an impact for the Cougars as a defensive back.
Senior defensive back Robbie Buckner, freshman defensive back Trevor Bateman and freshman defensive lineman Taumata Tofi did not report to fall camp due to medical reasons. They are expected to join the team once school begins.
BYU also announced that defensive lineman Jordan Richardson will not play his senior season due to an injury. It was previously announced that the careers of wide receiver Rhen Brown and defensive back Jray Galea'i have also be cut short due to injuries.
The new freshman recruits that reported to camp included wide receiver Dylan Collie, defensive back Matt Hadley, defensive back Micah Hannemann, offensive lineman Austin Hoyt, defensive lineman Theodore King, linebacker Jherremya Leuta-Douyere, linebacker Butch Pau'u, linebacker Rhett Sandlin, and running back Jamaal Williams.
BYU also welcomed transfers Drew Reilly (defensive back from Colorado State), Adam Hogan (defensive back from LA Southwest College) and Scott Arellano (punter from Foothill College). Also reporting were defensive back Craig Bills and Blake Morgan; defensive linemen Tui Crichton, Bronson Kaufusi, and Remington Peck; and offensive lineman Brad Wilcox. Defensive back Jacob Hannemann recently returned home from a mission and will join the team when school starts.
