DRAPER — Officials are investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire that gutted a single-family home early Sunday morning.
About 3:30 a.m., crews responded to a house fire at 339 E. Manti Drive. The fire appears to have started near a tree and deck on the outside of the home, said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Cliff Burningham.
"It was a fast-moving fire that extended into the structure before being reported," Burningham said.
Two adults were asleep in the home when the fire started. They awoke to sounds of the fire and smoke alarms and were able to escape the home, along with their dog, without injury, he said.
The fire spread throughout the basement of the home, forcing crews to attack the blaze from the outside, Burningham said.
Burningham estimated damage at $300,000. The inside of the home was gutted by the fire, he said, but the outside didn't sustain too much damage.
Fire officials are asking anyone with information about the fire to call 801-840-4000 and ask to speak to a Unified Fire investigator.
